Will Kimbrough rocks the house...

After being fortunate enough to feature Verlon Thompson, Susan and I became aware of the fact that we might be able to aim our selection choice a little higher than we anticipated.  I had seen Will Kimbrough perform at Springfest over the last three years.  The first year, he was playing with Rodney Crowell, but it was the year of 2005 that convinced me we needed to bring Will to Panama City.

In 2005, Will Kimbrough came back to Springfest with Tommy Womack under the guise of Daddy.  A great rock 'n roll band with an earnest juke joint feel.  During that weekend, Will and Tommy sat together and played an acoustic set, and that sole set was what convinced me Will would definitely be an artist to get.

After Verlon played in 2007 for us, we decided to eventually go after Will Kimbrough.  The problem was that we had never went through a tour manager.  We had always dealt directly with the artist.  Thankfully, Steve Fugett of New Frontier Touring made it a rather painless process.  I had heard horror stories in the past of house concerts trying to deal with tour managers, and Steve was just the opposite.

Will Kimbrough came into town on Saturday afternoon, November 10, 2007.  He got set up, and then ate dinner with us on the back deck.  Afterwards, we finished getting ready for the house concert.

Did we mention the weather was absolutely perfect?  62 degrees at 7pm, no wind and nary a cloud in the sky.

Will tore into his first set and never let up.  He primarily stuck with his newer material from his recent release titled "EP."  By the time he had played for about 45 minutes, I could tell that everyone was really starting to get into Will.  After the standard break, Will really got things going.  I try to not take advantage of the artist, and at the second 45 minute mark, I mentioned that it was time to wrap things up.  Well, after another half hour, he was finally ready to call it quits for the night.  He played some of his older material, a Daddy tune, and some great Bis-Quits tunes.  Hell, he even played a great Johnny Cash cover tune.

I was grinning ear to ear, because I was recording this entire evening directly from the soundboard.  But technology bit me in the ass, because it was never set up properly.  I know what I did wrong now, but it's too late to be able to memorialize that great evening of music for everyone to relive time and time again.  I guess we'll just have to have Will back again some day.

Afterwards, Will sold lots of CD's, and we played music till late into the night.  Will even joined in for a while, even though I knew he was tired from all his time on the road the past few days.

Will Kimbrough made a bunch of fans on November 10, 2007 here in Panama City, Florida.  Susan and I appreciate his willingness to join us, and we think he was another great artist here at Music Under the Moss.

Will posted about our house concert with the following post on his blog:
"Both my Gulf Coast gigs last week were stellar.  The Music Under The Moss show in Panama City was sold out and I enjoyed it tremendously. The after show jam was wonderful, people were sweet and I’d go back anytime. Thanks to Bart and Susan."

Susan and I would like to thank Geri and Mic Dottorelli like always.  They are the true silent partners of our house concert, and their help the day of the concert is invaluable!  Mic Dottorelli is also the man who took all these great pictures, and you should check him out in case you need a professional photographer yourself.  Susan and I also would like to thank Elijah, Bart's Little Brother, for his help in setting up the stage for the evening.  We'd also like to thank Ron and Julie Merritt for lending us the lighting gear, the fire pits, cooler and Ron's sound equipment expertise.  Finally, we'd like to thank everyone for coming.  It truly was another great evening of music and friendship.
