Verlon makes a return visit...

After going featuring Verlon during the spring of 2005, we had a tremendous response to his house concert.  While all of our past house concerts were great, Verlon was the first artist that I got the repeated question, "When you bringing him back?"  So that was easy enough, we just asked him back for the following spring.

This time Verlon came alone (without his lovely lady), and he cranked through another two-hour set.  The large majority of the songs were different this time too.  The special thing about this house concert was that I was able to introduce Verlon as "Grammy Nominated."  He was the producer for Guy Clark's "Workbench Songs" album, and it had been nominated at the time for best contemporary Americana album.  Unfortunately he lost to Bob Dylan, but it is still an honor to be nominated among the likes of Bob Dylan, Jackson Browne, Emmylou Harris and others.

I believe that Verlon is starting to get a nice grouping of songs together that will go towards the completion of his next album (whenever he tackles that project).  He's often busy supporting Guy Clark on the road, working with Shawn Camp and many others.

We had a large number of people who saw Verlon the first time, but there was at least a third of the people in attendance who hadn't seen him before.  It's always special to be able to expose people to an amazing artist like Verlon Thompson.

Finally, the music afterwards was probably the best jams we've had to date since Music Under the Moss began.  Verlon brought his mandolin, and pretty much stuck to that instrument the rest of the evening.  Quite a few people brought their instruments joined in the fray.  The rest sat around enjoying the friendship and music that makes house concerts so special.

Thanks to everyone that helped (especially Mic and Geri like always).  We wish Verlon the best of luck in the future, and always look forward to seeing him live again whenever possible.
