Verlon comes to town...

After going to Springfest in 2005, I had made up the review of the weekend on this site. I pretty much sent it to everyone artist that was mentioned on the web site, along with my friends and family. Doing that is what opened the door to the idea of hosting Verlon Thompson.

We honestly figured he would want too much money for a set. We also never saw house concerts listed as gigs on his web site. After sending out the link, I heard back from Verlon after a while. He said that those house concerts looked like a lot of fun, and he was always up for visiting the beach. My wife and I were giddy at the idea of featuring Verlon, but thought there was no way he'd actually say yes. So I emailed him back and offered a date in March of 2006 (this was in May of 2005). We had already nailed down Clyde for our fall artist.

Verlon got back to me and said he didn't schedule that far ahead, but asked me to get back in touch around the end of the year. Susan and I decided to wait and tell no one about the possibility of Verlon coming to our house. What's the use of mentioning it to a bunch of friends who already like the guy so much after seeing him at Springfest?

Well, in December of 2005, I emailed Verlon and asked him again if a March date in 2006 would work. After waiting a couple weeks, he got back to me and said it sounded like a great idea. We quickly nailed down a date in March, and it was official.

Getting to tell our friends that we were going to host Verlon Thompson was one of the best parts of this house concert. They couldn't believe we pulled it off, and kept asking us how we did it. It was simple. He opened the door, and we asked.

The house concert was amazing. Verlon made quite a number of new fans, and the older fans were just amazed that Verlon was playing in Bart and Susan's back yard. He brought his fiancé, Demetria Kalodimos, who is an amazing talent in her own right. She's one of the top evening news anchors in Nashville, and also has released some very cool documentaries.

Susan and I want to thank everyone who helped make the night a special one. Mic and Geri came over to help us get ready, and their help is always greatly appreciated. The day of the concert, Geri, Mic, Merideth, Jerry and Carol (the last two being my parents), all helped in a huge number of ways making it an easier task to get ready that night. Ron Merritt earns our thanks, because he's always there to offer whatever sound and lighting equipment we might need. Finally, thank you to everyone who bought a ticket. We hope you had a great evening....
