Malcolm Holcombe comes to town...

Another year of house concerts for Music Under the Moss, and Malcolm Holcombe started off this year in fine fashion.Malcolm live...

Though, sometimes they just fall into your lap....

On this site, we have a "Wish List" of artists.  It's basically a list of artists we'd love to host, but haven't yet for one reason or another.  Well, I had Malcolm Holcombe on our wish list since hearing his album "Gamblin' House" in early 2008.  It is a stunning release of raw Americana.  After seeing a few clips of his live shows, I added him to our "Wish List."  I described him as:

"I'm not sure he wouldn't scare the hell out of half of our guests and confuse the rest.  It'd still be a great ride.  Mix John Prine and Tom Waits, leave it on the front porch to age a few decades, and you have Malcolm Holcombe.  I believe he'd be one of those shows, and you'd walking away swearing you saw pure genius or a stark raving lunatic.  Either way, it'd be one hell of an experience!"

Believe it or not, this blurb here on the web site, is what got Cyndi, Malcolm's wife, to contact us.

Malcolm helping out!Now that it's all over...I don't think the description was too far from the truth.

On the day of the show, we were working around the back yard.  We were getting ready for the show, and Malcolm gives me a call.  He's in town early and wanted to know if it was okay to come by early.  Absolutely!  It was great getting to talk with Malcolm throughout the afternoon before the show that night.  A nicer, more sincere man you will not meet.

After eating dinner, before the show we always have a few more items to check off our list.  One of them was blowing the deck off one last time.  Before we could say no, Malcolm was already jumping on that task and helping out however he could.  I told you...he's "good people."

Then it happened...Malcolm got on that stage and turned into a possessed man.  He's working out demons and past transgressions right before our very eyes.  Sometimes we get in on the story lyrically..."Cynthia Margaret is an angel of mine."  Sometimes though, we just get a glimpse of what haunts him..."I hate you don't pretend you care."Malcolm live...

You feel lucky to have witnessed his nightly ritual of baring his soul for all to see.  I personally can't wait to see him again some day.

Thanks to everyone who showed up for Malcolm.  Thanks to Mic and Geri for everything that they do.  Mic took all the pictures that were for this show, and he's a professional photographer that is available for other work.  Feel free to contact him at his web site.

Thanks everyone!
