Things of note from this year's
Springfest.
Nick Annis came in second again this year at the songwriter's contest.
He ended up using Ron and Julie's camping spot in the loop this year.
We had became good friends with Nick and Michael as they came and performed
at our fall house concert in '06. So it was good to see Nick again,
and have many a good laugh with the guy. We wish him only the best
of luck in the future.
The RV we rented this time was great. It had warm water (a rare commodity
if you rely on the local showers), and it had heat at night (but it wasn't
that needed this year). The part that sucked was returning it.
We rented it from a local dealer this year, instead of using the company
near Tallahassee. Needless to say, I'm still glowing from Springfest,
and in about five seconds flat, I'm screaming at this lady who's being a
total ass. Her husband comes out and doesn't make it any better.
Just let me leave it at this...the local Cruise America people suck and
will never get our business again.
While some of the regulars weren't able to make the camp site jams this
year (or only part of it), the jams back at the camp site were still solid
this year. It was especially cool to have some other musicians back
at the site. I especially liked having Roy Schneider, a former songwriter
contestant, back at the site...very talented guy.
Only show that I really missed this year was the Duhks not being able to
make it to Live Oak for the festival. That really disappointed a lot
of people, and especially since they did not attend the festival in 2006
either. Oh well, there is always next year. Then the new singer
will be settled in by then hopefully.
Here are some of the great albums we snagged this year...
The Avett Brothers - Four Thieves
Gone
The Avett Brothers - The Gleam
The Avett Brothers - Live, Vol.
2
The Avett Brothers - Migonette
Will Kimbrough - Americanitis
Shawn Camp - Fireball
Jud Caswell - The Raven in the Apple
Tree
Ray Wylie Hubbard - Snake Farm
The Infamous Stringdusters
- Fork in the Road
We can't wait to go again next year. This festival has really become
an annual "breather" of sorts for my wife and I. A great way to clear
your head.
