Extra Things That Makes Springfest Great...

Every night after the you finish seeing the bands, you get to go back to the camp site and join in on our own musical jam. We had the Panama City group mainly stick around our site, but we had people from other sites filter in and out throughout the weekend. Basically, Springfest consists of staying up all day to hear other bands play, and then you stay up all night with your friends making music of your own. Very cool atmosphere.

The weekend could have been ruined by the awful storm that wrecked havoc on Friday morning, but everyone seemed to roll with the punches. Yes, there wasn't as much room to see the larger acts in the Music Hall, but for the most part, it was still a well-run festival.

There are some interesting people to watch at the shows. One particularly interesting guy is the one we came to call the "Dancing Ninja." All you have to do is say that phrase and others who have seen him knew exactly who you are describing. He basically makes ninja or karate moves while "dancing" to the music. The main thing that makes it so odd is that his moves have no bearing or relation to the music. The moves are not to the beat, he's just in his little own world. One particular evening, he had balloons on his back that gave him the look of being a butterfly. So that evening we called him the "Dancing Ninja Butterfly."

During the last set, the Duhks were playing. People started throwing long balloons around while the band played. Someone took a few of them, and made animals into them for the kids. A little girl in the row in front of us was given this dog. I guess she decided that the man (my dad) with the funny hat looked like he needed a doggie more than she did.

It is always great coming up to others in the campsite throughout the weekend telling one another what band we needed to check out that weekend. The Biscuit Burners and Old School Freight Train were just two band names that were thrown around.

Due to the problematic scheduling, I missed quite a few bands I had hoped to see this weekend.  I, Bart, go for the music more than anything else.  Others go for the fun and cooking at the campsite, some like part the camping and some the music...I go for just the music.  I want to get my money's worth and see as many bands I can during the weekend.  I still mised quite a few bands though.

Bands I missed:
Old School Freight Train
Keith Frank & Soileau Zydeco
Tammerlin
Dread Clampitt
The Waybacks
Larry Keel & Natural Bridge

Let's head back to the Concerts Page...
